Manager Community Organising, ActionAid Australia
With over 10 years’ experience in organising across the Trade Union, LGBTIQ, Environment and Human Rights based movements Dan has committed his life to “doing stuff to make stuff better”. After cutting his teeth as a student activist Dan started his professional career as an organiser for the NSW branch of the Australian Services Union organising workers in the Social and Community Services sector throughout Sydney. In 2010, Dan joined Amnesty International Australia as National Youth Coordinator. Dan developed a country-wide organising program which supported outreach to high schools, the development of university activists and the expansion of ARTillery, Amnesty’s arts-based activism initiative. The Youth program was one of the Amnesty’s pilot organising programs used to inform the organisations current model which supports over 200 local groups Australia-wide. In 2015, after a few years in Brisbane, Dan returned to Sydney to join Solar Citizens as Director of Campaigns and Organising. Dan led the organising team during the 2016 Federal election running high visibility tactics and events in electorates across Australia with the aim of getting Australia on the path to a future powered by 100% renewable electricity. Dan is now the Community Organising Manager for ActionAid Australia tasked with expanding an Australian based constituency to join ActionAid’s global movement to further human rights and defeat poverty for all.
