Michael is the Digital Fundraising Manager for Bernie 2016 and a Senior Campaign Strategist at Revolution Messaging. Michael previously worked at Change.org, where he lead the team responsible for email campaigning in the United States. He also lead the team running the campaign started by Trayvon Martin’s parents calling for the arrest of their son’s killer. Michael previously worked with progressive political blog Firedoglake, leading campaigning around whistleblower advocacy, workers’ rights and safety, and marijuana legalization. He came up through the labor movement at SEIU and the workers’ rights nonprofit American Rights at Work. Michael got his start in online organizing as the co-founder of Generation Dean, Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential campaign’s young voter organizing effort. Michael has a degree in documentary photography and political science from American University.
Project Manager Community Organising, Ko Awatea
Alexandra Nicholas is Project Manager, community organising trainer and coach at Ko Awatea, Centre for Health Improvement and Innovation Auckland, New Zealand.Her organising work is focused on issues of social justice and equity for Pacific and indigenous New Zealand Māori youth. Most recently, she was lead organiser of ‘Handle the Jandal,’ a by-youth, for-youth campaign unleashing Pacific and Māori youth leadership to enhance mental health and wellbeing. Alex has presented her work and led community organising trainings in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand contributing to global learning on the impact of social mobilisation and organising as an approach to working with communities to create health.
